WhatsApp has started rolling out a new update that builds on the WhatsApp status feature that was launched back in February.
And it looks very familiar.
If you’ve ever browsed Facebook and seen those status updates consisting of just text on a coloured background, you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about.
WhatsApp will now let you do the exact same thing, choosing a custom font and background colour that can be augmented with a link if you want.
Until now, WhatsApp Status has only allowed users to choose a photos, videos or GIFs with a few options to add captions or stickers.
Remember, your Status will disappear after 24 hours, like an Instagram or Snapchat story and, just like regular WhatsApp messages, they’re encrypted end-to-end.It’s also possible to change who exactly sees your WhatsApp status updates by going into the settings menu. You can make sure all your contacts can see it, or only a specific group or individual.
It’s unsurprising to see this kind of new feature arrive on WhatsApp, as the messaging app is owned by Facebook, which acquired it in 2014 for over $19 billion.
